The Full Radical Honesty Experience

There's nothing like a full-time, communal experience of an immersive Radical Honesty workshop right in the beautiful rainforest of Costa Rica. Together we will explore and uncover what it means to be alive, to be human, to be in connection, and to be yourself.

Throughout your 8 days at the workshop, Marvin, Mak, and Jura will lead you and your peers through the full spectrum of Radical Honesty. This is the only workshop format that includes Naked Work, Life Stories and Life Purpose Work. It’s a powerful experience designed to shift your attention out of old patterns and expand into a new, authentic version of yourself.

For 8 days, you will be living amongst toucans and monkeys in the heart of the rainforest to reconnect with your body and build authentic relationships based on who you really are. You will learn to express yourself, your feelings and thoughts, in a real and vulnerable way in order to reclaim your personal power, get grounded in your body, and build lasting relationships.

You will stay at the Eco-Lodge Cascada Elysiana, surrounded by pristine green nature, waterfalls, and breathtaking hiking trails. In this picturesque environment, you will come face-to-face with who you truly are and strip away all that you aren’t. Don’t worry: we have comfortable beds (if you want), professionally prepared meals, a nearby beach and community of truth tellers that will help you to integrate your experience and have a good time!

The workshop is not for you if you:

• Are unwilling to step out of your comfort zone
• Don’t want to hear others expressing themselves loudly
• Insist on changing people rather than changing the way you relate

Our Daily Rhythm and Agenda

We will begin each day with conscious movement meditation, followed by breakfast and a morning session of teaching, group conversations and paired exercises. We will then have a healthy lunch and an afternoon siesta. After the break, we will continue working with “hot seat” work, teaching, meditation, movement or dancing, and more paired and small group exercises.

After dinner, one by one, each person will spend about 45 minutes telling the whole story of their life. By the time the workshop has ended, each participant will have told their own life story and will have heard the telling of everyone else’s. Each person will also receive a copy of their Life Story video recording. They can later watch the video with their parents, (ex-)partners, siblings, lovers and friends with whom they have unfinished business in life and use the video-watching as a way to start honest conversations and create connection.

On the fifth or sixth day, we’ll all get naked. One at a time we’ll stand in front of the group and talk about what we like and don’t like about our body. We’ll also tell our sexual histories: when we first discovered we were a sexual being, when we first masturbated, whether we prefer doing it with men/women/vegetables/minerals/etc., how many partners we’ve had sex with, our favorite and least favorite sexual experiences, and so on. Though we’ll probably get embarrassed, with good coaching and complete sharing of the truth and support from the group we will face our shame/fears/taboos—and get over them.

People often presume that Naked Work is some sort of “sexy” experience. Usually, the experience is anything but sexy. Mostly the naked work is about embarrassment and shame and suffering—and about how our avoidance of those aspects of ourselves controls our lives. Quite often, the participants who, beforehand, scare themselves the most about doing this exercise are the very ones who benefit the most from it!

Then, together, we’ll review the videos of our Naked Work. One by one, each person will sit in front of a television screen and observe their video while receiving feedback about it. For some people, the process of watching oneself on a screen, naked, while talking about their sex life can be a more confrontational process than the original experience of standing naked before the group. Again, the willingness to face the experience and live through it can provide a decrease in the intensity of the sensations related to shame/embarrassment and a change in perspective on one’s own life in the direction of compassion for oneself as well as compassion for others. And then, most likely, we’ll appreciate ourselves and others for doing this work and live more fulfilling lives with less shame about ourselves and our bodies.

Just as with the Life Story video, each participant will receive a copy of their Naked Work video to share with important people in their life (the original files of those recordings will be deleted).

As you can imagine, by the sixth or seventh day, people will have gotten to know themselves and each other pretty well. What happens—and it happens again and again with very diverse groups of people—is pretty much the same each time: everyone falls in love with everyone else. Now, isn’t that a hell of a thing? Imagine all the time and energy we have wasted putting on acts and pretending to be someone we’re not in hopes that others will love us for our performance, when actually what we needed all along was to drop the act and tell the truth—and be ourselves!

You can create and offer your own activities such as ecstatic dance, conscious touch, movement, play, music or have more Radical Honesty conversations. We encourage you to ask for what you want and use the workshop space as your playground to experiment with living out loud and consciously creating your own experience.

 

Optional City Detox

 

If you feel drained from living in the city and using your screens, you can create your own City Detox experience by giving us your portable devices. We will keep them safe for you and you can make conscious decisions about if and when to use them. 

 

Donate 5 Trees when You Fly

 

You will probably fly into Costa Rica. If you do, you can compensate the emissions by funding five new trees. Each tree costs 5 dollars and will be planted and taken care of in your name on the reforestation property of our friendly neighbors.

 

A Workshop in Living Life out Loud and Reconnecting to Your Senses

 

Radical Honesty is a revolutionary and compassionate communication method, cutting right through obsessive thinking to get grounded in the present moment. We believe that most modern human suffering is based on lying, whether in the form of withholding, manipulating, or the direct telling of lies (including so-called “little white lies”). We also believe that withholding feelings is one of the fastest ways to make yourself sick and create dis-ease in the body.

By lying, you entrap yourself in your own thoughts and live a half-depressed, half-sleepwalking life, wondering what happened to your childhood aliveness. We postpone happiness. We keep ourselves small and live out the same old day – over and over again. We wonder why we feel alienated from our friends, family, and loved ones and feel isolated from the world.

 

Radical Honesty is the antidote to playing it small! 

… yet it has nothing to do with brutal honesty or extreme honesty.

When exactly does the workshop start and end?

We kick off the workshop on Saturday, 11th of December 2021 at 10am.

We will end on Sunday, 19th of December 2021 around 11am.

You’ll fly into San Jose Costa Rica. From there, you can either take an express bus to Dominical, a local bus to San Isidro, or we can help you arrange a private taxi that will take you directly to us for $150 for 1-3 people.

The training will be conducted in English. We have a German and Lithuanian native speakers on site, as well as people fluent in Spanish and French.

The workshop leaders will by one of our most experienced Radical Honesty Trainers Marvin Schulz, Michael Alan Kolb, who is an owner of the Eco Lodge and Jura Glo, founder of TransformWork and Honest Dating in Berlin.

 

Who can participate?

Anyone! No prior experience with Radical Honesty is required. You will, though, have to agree to the workshop’s agreements: to keep confidentiality, to tell the truth, to support others in telling the truth, to be on time and present, to allow the trainers to coach you and to ask for what you want. We also recommend you read Brad Blanton’s books Radical Honesty and/or Practicing Radical Honesty before the workshop.

Commitment

Please plan your travels in a way for you to be present at each session. To make this workshop work for you and everyone else, we will all agree to take part in every session, including the Naked Work, body movement, meditation and telling of Life Stories. If you have any concerns with any of the programs, let us know in advance.

About the Trainers: Marvin Schulz

 

Marvin Schulz, M.Sc., is one of the most experienced Radical Honesty Trainers and organizes workshops in Europe, Africa, and the Americas. As a former auditor for investment banks in New York and Executive Assistant for a multi-billion dollar company on Broadway, Marvin experienced the detrimental effects of lying and withholding first hand: at age 26, he was depressed and burned out. 

“I had a promising career in front of me. However, I felt horrible and empty. None of the money I made could compensate for my inner yearning for love, connection and a happy life. After deciding not to kill myself, I opted for a Radical Honesty Workshop. After that, I still killed myself, but in a very different way: I killed my self-image and completed my past.”

He left the corporate rat wheel and embarked on his journey towards a more authentic, joyous, and connected life. He moved back to Germany and healed his own wounds by having honest conversations with important people. He cleaned up his past using Radical Honesty. Dr. Blanton invited Marvin to live at his place in Virginia for one season and certified him as a Radical Honesty trainer three years later.

Marvin has the ability to bring humor into seemingly serious processes while staying compassionate and curious. He is comfortable going into discomfort and can guide participants in re-experiencing hurt and pain while holding them in the here and now. His style is inquisitive, simple, and direct – often with a wink and never without compassion. Marvin has lived in China, Mexico, South Africa and the United States and studied cross-cultural communication. He currently resides in Prague, Czech Republic, where he produces music, drinks coffee and enjoys what he often calls the most beautiful city in the world. About the Trainers: Michael Alan Kolb

Mak has a BA in Psychology and is a certified Radical Honesty Trainer. Since 2015, he has been a trainer-in-training under the guidance of Radical Honesty founder, Dr. Brad Blanton.

Mak is committed to helping people develop the skills needed to live life out loud, to mend and build (and sometimes end) meaningful relationships and to ground themselves in experiential reality. He is particularly interested in the problems of existentialism, couples work and open relationships and dealing creatively with anger and conflict. He lives primarily in Costa Rica and is Co-Founder of Cascada Elysiana.

About the Trainers: Jura Glo, Radical Honesty Trainer 

Jura is the founder of the biggest Radical Honesty community in Europe. She started practicing and leading groups in Radical Honesty in 2014 after seeing how impossible it became to hide and pretend to be happy and successful. After dropping out of Master Studies, she quit her job and taught herself all the skills she needed to work and live the life she wanted. Now she is an experienced transformational workshop leader and personal coach that specializes in Honesty, Intimacy & Sexuality. She is a founder of a visionary organization TransformWork which focuses on creating safe spaces for people to explore, discover and export new and forgotten ways of being, working and relating with each other.

About the Venue: Cascada Elysiana

 

Mountain Hiking  

The trails carved through our orchards and forests are quite beautiful. Most of them, such as our cacao orchard, are overgrown, giving them a primeval feel. This doesn't make for good cacao production, but does create a unique setting and the fruit that we're unable to use is great for the troop of White-Faced Monkeys that lives in the area. 

Waterfalls & Pools

Cascada Elysiana Waterfall is simply stunning. She's temperamental, at times rushing and powerful, at times lazy and misty, depending on the rainfall filling the aqueducts that feed her. Whatever her mood, the setting is wonderful, seemingly artist-designed.

Relax & Meditate

We've designed Cascada Elysiana to be as tranquil and relaxing as possible. We don't allow automobiles (other than service vehicles) in the interior of the finca. All guest vehicles are parked at the entrance and the hike to the campground is about 6-8 minutes, enough to block almost all sounds from the road. Deeper into the finca, near the waterfall, you will never see a light nor hear a sound that isn't nature-made.
